Create your account with Bob the Backup

You will need to provide account information, contact details and bank account details. This page is secure and uses SSL.

Activate your Account

You will need to activate your account. An activation email is sent to your email address with an activation link in it. You can either click the link or copy and paste it into your browser.

Log into MyBackup Portal

Once your account has been activated you can log into the MyBackup Portal using your Bob the Backup username and password and download the backup software.

Download Backup Software

Once you have logged in, press the download button at the top of the screen. Either click on the appropriate installation file or right click on the link and select "save target as" to save the file to your computer.

Install Backup Software

Once you have downloaded the backup software you will need to install it. If you saved the download to your computer you will need to locate the file and run it.

Configure the Backup Software

When you run the backup software for the first time, you will be asked for your Bob the Backup username, password and encryption key. These are the same details that you provided during the account creation.

Once you have provided your account details you will be asked a series of questions that the backup software needs to run. You will be asked for your internet connection type and then for your backup schedule. You can change these settings at any time.

Backup your files

The backup software will automatically run according to the times you specified for your backup schedule. If you want to do a backup manually simply press the backup button on the backup software.

Your first backup may take a while depending on how many files you have selected for backup. Every subsequent backup will run a lot quicker as it only has to transmit the changes since your last backup.

There is help avialable on the right hand side of the application that teaches you how to select files and folders for backup.

When Disaster Strikes...

If your files get infected with a virus, you can use the backup software to restore uninfected versions of your files.


Computer Stolen

If your computer or laptop is lost or stolen you can recover all of your important files by reinstalling the backup software on your new computer. Once you have reconnected to your backup account using your Bob the Backup username, password and encryption key you can restore all your files to your new computer.


Hard Disk Failure

Hard disk failure is the most common cause of data loss. Bob the Backup protects you against this common problem.
